Help put a smile on the faces of children at Evelina London this Christmas

This Christmas, you can help staff at Evelina London provide some fantastic gifts for seriously ill children and bring smiles to their faces. James Melville-Ross shares his moving story on how you can make a big difference.

‘Christmas should be such a magical time for children; the excitement at bedtime on Christmas Eve, putting a carrot out for Rudolf, waking up to a Christmas stocking full of presents. But what happens when you wake up on Christmas morning, not in the comfort of your home, but on a hospital ward?

‘That has been the reality for our family over three Christmases since 2003 – and it will be the case for many more families this Christmas.

‘I know you care about all the families who’ll be spending the festive season in hospital, which is why I’m hoping you will support the Christmas Smiles Appeal 2017 today. Your kindness makes such a difference to families like mine. By making a generous donation today, you could bring a smile to a child’s face, and help to make Christmas in hospital a little easier for them and their families.

Amazing doctors, nurses and facilities

‘As the parent of two children who were seriously ill, I know what these families will be going through this Christmas. When our twins, Tommy and Alice, were born prematurely in August 2003, they weighed just a pound and a half each and we were told that they had very low chances of surviving. We came so close to losing them on numerous occasions in those early months and we doubted they would make it to our first Christmas together.

‘In all honesty, there’s no way they would have survived without the amazing nurses, doctors and facilities at Evelina London. To see our twins together for the first time was the greatest Christmas gift we could have received.

‘If you or a loved one has spent time in Evelina London, you’ll know what an amazing hospital it is. But so much of what makes it such a special place is thanks to friends like you. Evelina London relies on your support to fund important extras above what the NHS is able to provide – including extras that make Christmas special for the children.

‘So please, if you can, support Evelina London with a donation today. You can help their play specialists to buy games, books, sensory toys and lots of other home comforts for children spending Christmas in hospital. Your kind donation will make a seriously ill child smile on Christmas Day. And for family and staff, it’s the children’s smiles that will be the greatest gift of all.

Please donate to the Christmas Smiles Appeal 2017, and put a smile on the faces of children at Evelina London this Christmas.

Please note: we are very sorry, but we cannot accept actual gifts at the hospital. Please donate to our Christmas Smiles Appeal so we can buy the gifts which have been specially selected by our Play Specialists so that every child gets an appropriate gift at Christmas.
